Following publication on the internet site The Time of Israel
of an announcement claiming that the pope’s visit will be cancelled due
to the strike of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs employees,
Father Federico Lombardi, spokesman for the Holy See, told AFP (the
French Press Agency): “a strike is a problem and may cause complications
in preparations for the trip”.
According to i.media, specialists on Vatican affairs, there is nonetheless no “major concern in the Vatican”. This agency contacted “Vatican sources close to the organization of the Pope Francis’s visit to the Holy Land”, and states, “Although the Vatican recognizes that the strike, which has only just begun, seriously complicates the preparations that have begun for the visit”, which is to take place from May 24 to 26 in Jordan, Palestine and Israel, they also confirm that this is a purely Israeli issue. “It’s their problem,” commented one of the organizers, remarking that the visit is still far in the future.
