The Catholic Church in Jordan celebrated the Baptism of the Lord on Friday, Jan. 14th. This is a traditional pilgrimage with the pilgrims travelling for a day to the Baptismal site, along the banks of the Jordan. Many faithful, Jordanians and foreigners, took part on the 10th year of this pilgrimage.
Bishop Salim Sayegh, Auxiliary Bishop for Jordan, presided over the celebration with the participation of Bishops of the Catholic churches in the country: Melkites, Maronites (also from Lebanon),Chaldeans, with the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Giorgio Lingua.
In his homily, Bishop Sayegh stated that the co-existence between Christians and Muslims is a reality. He thanked the Royal Commission for the site of baptism and its administration and organization efforts to ensure the success of this pilgrimage.
The celebration included the renewal of baptismal promises and the blessing of the faithful. Various choirs have animated the liturgy, formed by members from different churches.
