VATICAN CITY – The visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Vatican is confirmed for December 2, 2013, according to “Pagine Ebraiche” information site of the Jewish communities in Italy.
An appointment originally scheduled for October was canceled. The Prime Minister will be received in private audience by Pope Francis. This is the first meeting between the Pope and the head of the Israeli government. On the agenda, the relationship between Israel and the Vatican, the Middle East, and perhaps the Pope’s journey as suggested by the Italian author of the article. After the Pope’s election and during his visit to Rome in May, President Shimon Peres [invited] the Pope to visit the Holy Land. On several occasions, Pope Francis has expressed his desire to go to the Holy Land, but such a trip has not yet been announced by the Vatican.
